Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone! Here's a video from Mighty Mo Coffee, which one of my friends just started up. I love how worshipful it gets when the singer starts singing "oh night divine."
Thank you Jesus for coming to the earth as fragile baby, to save us from and pay for the sins of the world. That our lives would be lived in honor of You.
Merry Christmas :)

Saturday Morning Quick Update
Hey everyone, Christmas break is here! The campus is clearing out, we've sent our Fall schools overseas. And the majority of our staff have returned home for the holidays.
I'm up on a saturday morning early, about to work on some photo edits and hopefully get our new photography webpage up today.
My parents come on Tuesday to visit for a few weeks to celebrate Christmas!
How is your Saturday going? Ready for the Holidays?

December Garden Update! [VIDEO]
IMG 2799 from Jim and Jess Baker on Vimeo.
Hey everyone! Here's my December garden update video! I shot it on my new ipod touch, let me know if you think the video quality is better. And I apologize for blanking out on some of it, I shot this before I had any coffee. :) I'm including below what I forgot.
0:57 - The One Straw Revolution - Masanobu Fukuoka
(I came outside yesterday to do Laundry after doing this video and saw a bird hovering near some of the greens, so I think he was eating some of those pests!)
1:27 - I tried again to get some seeds out of there later in the day and it did work! I threw them in one of the grow beds to see if they will grow!
3:45 - Dahlia
4:04 - My moringa is now completely gone, just a stem :(
4:16 - Tumeric

Black Friday! Buy This, Seriously, You'll Thank Me.
If you buy one thing this holiday season, I encourage you to buy this.
What is it? It's an amazing blender. Yes it's pricey, but Jess and I don't regret this investment in our health at all.
We use this most mornings to make green smoothies. There is no other way I would get so many fruits and vegetables in my system. We mix greens, bananas, berries, sometimes apples, and sometimes other things like chia seeds, or coconut milk in there and blend it up and it's actually really tasty. The sweetness of the fruits completely covers up any taste of the greens.
The vitamix is easy to use, it's the most powerful tool I own, (my drill runs off triple a batteries) and it's easy to clean, which means you're actually going to use it.
When we bought it, it had a 30 day money back guarantee, which I told Jess we would absolutely send it back if we weren't using it every day because it's to expensive to just be a counter decoration.
It also comes with a 7 year warranty. We've had ours over a year, and had no problems with it, we've even travelled with it.
If you buy today from the link above we get 4-6% of the sale, and it cost you nothing extra.
If you're doing other shopping online and want to help us out. Please at no extra cost to you, click below on our Amazon Affiliate link and shop as normal! We will get 4-6% of everything you buy and it will cost you nothing extra.

Church Goals
Kris Vallaton recently posted this on his facebook page. I'm not 100% clear on their time line for this, if this is called Vision 2022, because they want everyone to be doing these things by 2022 or what but nonetheless... I found these to be really solid, tangible, specific, good goals, and I wanted to share them with you.

Minimalism
I've been thinking a lot lately about how my life feels cluttered.
Not just with things, but with things as well.
What can I say no to? What can I get rid of in my life that is burdening me?
How can I make life simpler?
I've been spending a lot more time in my "garden" and a lot less time in front of my computer. That's a dang good thing.
What is excess in my life? That I think I need, but don't need at all.
Do you feel burdened with physical or mental clutter? How have you taken or do you want to take steps to simplify or minimize?

MONDAY!!! Time if flying. Quick Update
Hola e'rybody.
I'm sitting at the manoa starbucks drinking a decaf coffee. I'm working on editing a wedding.
I spent literally the whole day today working on my aquaponics. I got something done today that I've been wanting to do for a while. I'll hopefully post about it soon.
Jess is having surgery on Wednesday for her meniscus. Prayers appreciated.
Sorry that the blog has been neglected.

I'm still here... [quick update]
i'm still here.
i haven't made the time to devote to blogging like i'd like to, sorry. got lots of thoughts going around in my head, just no time to get them out.
i might have talked about it before, but we're in the transition of a new quarter. it's here, but I don't think I've caught up.
i trained a new receptionist and then she felt called to do the school of missions and evangelism. she was doing a great job and will be missed, but we're here to raise up missionaries, not receptionists. :)
constantly in transition.

Honest Thoughts On Street Evangelism
Kona 2008
When I was in Kona a few weeks ago, I visited the prayer room at the YWAM campus for a short time. Before that I had a couple of conversations with Dan Baumann and through those talks and time in the prayer room, it led me to want to start an optional time of prayer and worship here on the YWAM Honolulu base....

How To Help The Police At The Scene Of A Crime
A Car Accident I saw in Maryland in 2008.
Do you know how to be a good witness. You thought I was talking about a witness for Jesus didn't you? I think I'll talk about that on Friday. But since I wrote a post about the domestic dispute I observed, and realized I was a bad witness, here's some tips from a friend of mine that is a police officer on how to be a good witness...

Where Does Motivation Come From?
I've got a question for you, and I want you to answer it if you know.
"Where does motivation come from?"
My biggest struggle in life has always been I KNOW what I need to do, I just don't WANT to do it. Actually, I'm not even sure if that's true, because I do WANT to do some of the things I need to do, I just don't want to enough to push through whatever I'm sensing is hard.
Things are much easier when you have the momentum of motivation. It requires real discipline (which isn't fun, and doesn't come easy to me) to do the things that you don't want to do.
I have seasons of being super motivated, where I'm disciplined, and then I swing the exact opposite extreme. Where I lack all motivation and therefore lack discipline.
I realize that self discipline is pushing through and being consistent when there is no motivation. So how do you achieve that?
Engage: What do you value, but struggle to stay consistent and disciplined in? What are some of your secrets to pushing through?

Happy Wednesday!
Hello everyone.
I apologize for not keeping up with blogging. I've got lots of things to write about I just haven't taken the time to do so.
Sometimes I get really burnt out on social media and need a break. Last week was rough, I think I was trying to cut out to many things out of my diet in attempt to eat healthy that it really shocked my system and I had a hard time doing much of anything with a good attitude.
So here's to hoping that I can get back into a good blogging schedule soon. I still owe you guys a tour of our new house.
Thank you to all of you that faithfully read this blog, I appreciate it!
I'd love to hear from you!! Feel free to shoot me an e-mail and lets catch up. jimjessbaker (at) gmail (dot) com

But I keep sitting down to write things and I can't bring myself to hit publish.
Anyway...

What's Heroic Overseas But Foolish Here In The USA?
A child in Kenya eats peanut butter most likely for the first time. From our Kenya Trip 2010.
Yesterday (well today actually, but I'm posting this tomorrow for the East coast) I celebrated my "Airplane Day." This is the day that my parents got me in an airport when I was 5 months old after I had flown from South Korea to NY.
To celebrate Jess and I borrowed someone's car and ate Korean food for lunch. I'm grateful for a biological mother who chose to carry me for 9 months and then give me up, and I'm thankful for a family that wanted to adopt.
Here's a thought I had recently along these lines...

Do You Like When I Link To Other Peoples Blogs That I've Found Useful? Or Is It Annoying?
When I think of sharing I think of toddlers inability to share. Photo taken in my 2008 School of Photography.
I need honest feedback. For a while I was sharing links to blogs that I found useful or thought provoking every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on Facebook and Twitter. I stopped while we were on the mainland. I've always wondered if I'm overwhelming my facebook/twitter friends and followers with too much information.
Obviously this isn't a very scientific test... if you took the time to read this that means I probably haven't annoyed you to the point where you've unfollowed me on facebook. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Although, it might. :)
Engage: Do you enjoy the other blogs that I've linked to in the past on facebook and twitter? Should I continue or not? How do you decide if you're posting too much on social media? Let us know in the comments.

Check out our 5 bedroom 3 bathroom home in Honolulu!
This is the view of our room our main door the evening we moved in. A bare cfl bulb from the middle of the ceiling illuminated everything.
"We volunteer with missions organizations because of the housing!" said no one ever...

This is the view from Ko-Olina which is a resort that I stayed at in 2009 when I vacationed here. We don't live at a resort. :)
I know I said the next post would be about our living situation, I haven't gotten a chance to write that blog yet, but it's coming soon I promise...

Another Quick Update From The Road
Hello everyone!
We're packing up and about to leave Atlanta, and we're headed to Chattanooga TN to meet up with our good friend Tiffany Henley. We will be going to the circus to celebrate Jess' birthday! I've never been to a circus. Her birthday was the 10th, if you didn't wish her a happy birthday and would like to you can do so in the comments!
We had a great time in Atlanta spending time with Jess' sister, brother in law and niece. On the way to Atlanta we got to connect with a few people on the road too, we had breakfast with Sharon Dixon and lunch with Tyler who is a family friend of Jess'.
Before that we had a great time with Jess' dad and step mom in Sarasota Florida. And a great time with my grandparents in Lake Worth Florida.
Tonite we're headed to Clarksville TN to connect with Jimmie Turner and his family, hoping also to see Tony Corbett while I'm in town and then Monday we're headed to Louisville KY to see our good friends the Krebs.
back to packing! pray for safe travel for us!

Two Things That Have Blessed Me Recently
I've been blessed by these two things recently. The above worship song, and the quote below. I hope they bless you too!
"If you cry out to God, asking Him to restore the passion that you lost, He will answer -- every single time." - Ps Steven Furtick
